Is it hot where you are?  Beat the Heat in Durango.  This is part 2 of the series on How to Beat the heat in Durango, CO. In the last blog I wrote this was a 3 part series.  Well, it’s a 4 part series.  Apparently I can’t count!  The first part we discussed , according to the alphabet, the A-G possibilities.  Animas River, Bar D Wranglers, Cool off in the art galleries, the train, events, fly-fishing and golfing.  DATO or Durango Area Tourism Office,  http://www.durango.org , published a list last year and we are just reviewing with some additions!  Durango has so many activities in the summertime that can appeal to everyone in the family.  Including the 4 legged, furry ones. Now we continue with the letter H;

H– Hiking or Horseback riding or both!  There are countless trails in the Southwest corner of Colorado ranging from easy to expert.  At the O-Bar-O you can ask us what hikes we like or you  can borrow our hiking book to make sure and plan the perfect trip.  As for horseback riding what a great place to go for a ride.  Majestic views all the way around.  Or you can combine the two.

I–Ice Cream.  I scream you scream we all scream for ice cream.  As an ice cream aficionado it is important to make sure to take advantage of our local ice cream and yogurt shops.

J–James Ranch.  What a fascinating place.  You can get a tour of the farm, peruse the market with all the items straight from the source!, or enjoy lunch at the Harvest Grill.  We haven’t had one disappointed Guest yet!

K–Kid Friendly.  Of course Durango is kid friendly.  There are too many activities to mention them all in a short paragraph so I will paraphrase…..art classes, rafting, water park at the Rec Center, Powerhouse Museum, Trimble Hot Springs, Fish Hatchery, backpacking, hiking and more.  Of course, here at the O-Bar-O we have volleyball, horseshoes, soccer balls, baseballs and gloves, a toy chest just full of games to keep the young and adventurous Guests entertained.   Don’t forget to ask us if you have little adventurers between 2-5 years old.  We have some special activities just for them.

L– Live Music.  We have a wide variety of musical entertainment.  If you have a hankerin’ for some bluegrass or ragtime you can always find those somewhere downtown.  There is also Mondays on Main belting classic oldies.  One of our favorite is Music in the Mountains.  Take a picnic, listen to the music from the mountain tops being soothed by the sounds and scenery.

M– Mesa Verde National Park.  Enjoy daytime hikes and enchanting evening programs at the park.  You can decide if you want to take a guided tour or maybe venture out yourself for a self guided tours of the ruins.  All ages can enjoy the walk through time and be fascinated by these Indians.

N–Durango’s Nightlife.  Dinner at the local restaurant?  Live music at on the bars or taverns?  Movies at the Gas Light?  Or the best option sit back and enjoy the evening sounds sitting by the river at the O-Bar-O.  You would be surprised what you hear.

So, whatever your pleasure know that Relaxation has an Address with Rocky Mountain style at the O-Bar-O Cabins.
